 "description": "<DIV STYLE=\"text-align:Left;\"><DIV><DIV><P><SPAN>Significant Groundwater Recharge Area (SGRA) for the Toronto &amp; Region Source Protection Authority (TRSPA). SGRAs are areas which generate higher than average groundwater recharge and are hydraulically connected to a drinking water system. Recharge areas are characterized by permeable soils, such as sand or gravel that allow the water to seep easily into the ground and flow to an aquifer. These areas help to maintain the water quantity in aquifers that supply communities with drinking water.A water budget is a study that evaluates the movement of water as well as its uses, on and below the earth\u2019s surface. A Tier Three Water Budget and Local Area Risk Assessment uses surface water and groundwater flow models to evaluate municipal groundwater wells located within subwatersheds assigned a moderate or significant water quantity stress level in a Tier 2 water budget. The objective of the Tier Three Water Budget is to estimate the likelihood that a municipality will be able to meet future water quantity requirements. Tier 3 model did not encompass the entire TRSPA, thus this is a combination of (mostly) the Tier 3 SGRA (where recharge rate is greater than 224 mm/yr) and the Tier 1 SGRA (where recharge rate is greater than 150mm/yr) for the area that fell outside of the Tier 3 model (Etobicoke Creek Watershed). SGRA excludes areas that are fully serviced by Lake Ontario.Background:Both the Tier 1 and the Tier 3 analyses used variations of the PRMS modelling code. The Tier 1 study used the PRMS model (Leavesely, et al., 1983) developed by Earthfx Inc. for the TRCA. The Tier 3 study used rates of groundwater recharge estimated with the integrated GSFLOW model (Markstrom et al., 2008) developed by Earthfx for the Tier 3 Water Budget Analysis.Please refer to the Clean Water Act approved symbology when using this data.
