Building shape is determined by the roofline visible on the orthophotography, and hence, may not perfectly reflect the footprint as it appears on the ground. </SPAN></P><P><SPAN>This data is updated annually, based on current year orthophotography, to reflect additions, modifications and deletions.</SPAN></P><P><SPAN>During update, the following rules are followed:</SPAN></P><UL><LI><P><SPAN>Only permanent or semi-permanent structures are included, that meet a minimum size of 10sq. metres or greater. </SPAN></P></LI><LI><P><SPAN>Where 2 or more buildings are joined directly no attempt is made to determine the extent of individual units.</SPAN></P></LI><LI><P><SPAN>Buildings under construction are included if the foundation is complete and the building shape can be determined.</SPAN></P></LI><LI><P><SPAN>Deleted footprints remain in the feature class for historical purposes</SPAN></P></LI></UL><P><SPAN>While there is an attempt to reflect changes in buildings such as full tear-down and replacement of properties vs existing building additions, this is often difficult to determine through orthophotography. In the event of a building tear-down and replacement with new buildings, the original building will be 'Deleted' and new building footprint(s) captured with new IDs. In the event of an existing structure extension, the existing ID will remain and a modification year will be provided.</SPAN></P><P><SPAN>Use a filter where Status = 'Deleted' to remove no-longer existing footprints from the dataset for visualization purposes.</SPAN></P><P><SPAN /></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>

Notable updates include the addition of new campuses, address changes, and the deletion of closed campuses. It was converted from text files with tabular spatial and attributes into a feature class. In 2019, the dataset was completely updated using the feature class ecoBusinessDirectory from SDW, ScoreGolf.com, and Google. The schema was changed completely, and golf courses in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) were also included. Additional information was added using the York Region Tourism directory and YellowPages.ca website. The dataset is reviewed and updated annually using York Region's Business Directory and other relevant sources, specifically filtering businesses with North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Code starting with "71391".</SPAN></P><P><SPAN>Note: The data is not guaranteed to be complete and is intended to supplement existing datasets maintained by York Region.
